Nato quick to set historic precedent

The North Atlantic Coucil decided on 12 September that if the terrorist attacks on the United States of America proved to be directed from outside the country, they would be regarded as an action covered by Article 5 of the 1949 Washington treaty and therefore be treated as an attack on all the Nato Allies.
