Loyola de Palacio, Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of transport and energy, met the Secretary General of OPEC, Ali Rodriguez, in Brussels on 4 December 2001. She reaffirmed that the European Commission's priority remains price stability. “It is essential to act against erratic price trends and everything must be done to guarantee stability” she stated after the meeting. “A reasonable target price should be $20: it is no more in Europe's interest to have prices which are too low than prices which are too high”, she added |
