Press Release: CO2-tax: Commission authorises partial tax relief for the glasshouse horticulture sector in the Netherlands

The Netherlands may continue to apply a partial relief from the regulatory energy tax on natural gas to the glasshouse horticulture sector following a decision by the European Commission on 13 December 2001. The reduced rate will apply for two further periods of three years. The applicable rate will be increased with 10% for each of the two three-years-periods. The Commission also decided to modify the Community guidelines for state aid in the agriculture sector in order to allow exemptions from taxes for a period of ten years instead of five years, in line with the environmental guidelines
