During an official visit to Beijing on 16-19 June 2001, Loyola de Palacio, European Commission Vice-President responsible for Transport and Energy, delivered the message that the EU and China must co-operate more closely to tackle pressing energy issues. At the opening session of the Fourth EU-China Conference on energy cooperation, she advocated joint action, primarily in the areas of producer-consumer dialogue, promotion of new energy sources, contribution of the various energy sources to sustainable development and supply safety as well as technology transfer. |
