Following the dismissal of the Slovak Executive National Aid Co-ordinator responsible for the implementation of the Phare and ISPA programmes in Slovakia, Mr Roland Toth, the European Commission decided on 6.4.01 to suspend the tendering and contracting of Phare and ISPA projects until some of the facts about this case had been established. Following reassurances from the Slovak authorities that the case does not appear to have had negative implications on the implementation of the Phare and ISPA programmes and given the importance of these programmes for the preparation of Slovakia for accession, the European Commission decided on 27.4.01 to allow the Slovak authorities to resume, temporarily, tendering and contracting of Phare and ISPA projects. |
