Press Release: Commission adopts green paper on integrated product policy

On 8.2.01, the European Commission adopted a Green Paper on an Integrated Product Policy. Its central objective is to improve the environmental performance of a broad range of products throughout their life cycle. The Green Paper proposes a strategy to strengthen and refocus product-related environmental policies to promote the development of a market for greener products. The products of the future should use less resources, have lower impacts and risks to the environment and prevent waste generation already at the conception stage. Integrated Product Policy has also been announced as one of the major innovative elements of the 6th Environmental Action Programme and is one of the environmental priorities for the Swedish Presidency of the Council.
