An appeal for European reform has been signed by a dozen former heads of government and European Commissioners, including Jacques Delors, the former Commission President and Giuliano Amato and Jean-Luc Dehaene, former Prime Ministers of Italy and Belgium. The three are members of a committee helping Guy Verhofstadt, Prime Minister of Belgium, prepare for the EU summit to be held in Laeken in December 2001. The future of Europe is also on the agenda of an informal summit to be held on 19 October 2001 in Ghent. The manifesto entitled 'A wake-up call for Europe' was released on 15 October 2001. |
