The European Fisheries Control Agency, formerly the Community Fisheries Control Agency, until 1 January 2012, when it was renamed, was established in 2005 to organise operational coordination of fisheries control and inspection activities by the EU Member States and to assist them to cooperate so as to comply with the rules of the Common EU Fisheries Policy in order to ensure its effective and uniform application. The Agency became operational in January 2007 and has its official seat in Vigo, Spain.

The primary role of the Agency is to ensure uniform and effective application of the rules of the Common Fisheries Policy by the Member States by organising operational cooperation between Member States, assisting the Community and Member States in their relations with third countries and Regional Fisheries Managament Organisations (RFMOs) and ensuring dialogue with stakeholders, in particular through the Regional Advisory Councils (RACs).
