Press Release: Energy Commissioner Piebalgs welcomes the agreement for the construction of a Lithuanian-Polish interconnector

Commissioner Andris Piebalgs has welcomed the agreement signed on 8 December 2006 between "Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne" energy company of Poland and "Lietuvos Energija" of Lithuania for the construction of an electric interconnector that will link the Baltic Republics to the continental European electricity network (UCTE). The signature of this agreement took place only days after the opening ceremony of the Estlink, an underwater electricity cable that links the electricity systems of Finland and the Baltic States. "This is a capital step for the full energy integration of the Baltic Republics in the European Union", said Commissioner Piebalgs.
