Report of comments by the French Minister for European Affairs Bernard Cazeneuve, September 2012. He said that France was open to the idea of a new European Union treaty to deepen integration if it is deemed necessary for new 'solidarity' mechanisms in the EU such as debt mutualisation.

EurActiv reported he was reacting to calls earlier in September 2012 by José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel for a new treaty to help the bloc overcome the sovereign debt crisis through integration.
