It is said that the European Research Area is to research and innovation what the EU “common market” is for goods and services. That being true, there is then need for a common warehouse to store the “goods” produced by the ERA. The Commission has recently laid out plans to establish such a repository, known as the Digital Repository Infrastructure Vision for European Research, or DRIVER.

DRIVER will serve as an e-infrastructure for storing R&D findings produced through the ERA. Once established, the general public will have free access to scientific/technical reports, research articles, experimental or observational data, rich media and other digital information via the internet.
