Barroso urges EU unity on immigration

European Union leaders were urged on 7 September 2006 to help southern EU countries that are grappling with a surge in illegal immigration. As thousands of Africans risk their lives trying to enter the EU by boat, José Manuel Barroso, European Commission president, told EU member states to do more to support each other.
