The European Commission has taken action against France and Luxembourg to correct breaches of EU law on professional qualifications. The Commission has decided to refer France to the European Court of Justice over its legislation relating to the use of the professional title of dentist. The Commission has also formally requested Luxembourg to amend its legislation restricting the activities that midwives are allowed to perform. This request takes the form of a “reasoned opinion”, the second stage of the infringement procedure laid down in Article 226 of the EC Treaty. If there is no satisfactory reply within two months, the Commission may refer the matter to the European Court of Justice. |
