Is Europe still at a crossroads?

The European Parliament continues to contribute to the debate on the future of the European Union. After a meeting on 8 and 9 May 2006 with members of national Parliaments, (a dialogue that will be revisited in December), MEPs began a series of discussions on 31 May 2006 with Heads of EU governments. The first meeting was with Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt, who recently laid out his ideas for the future of Europe in a book entitled "the United States of Europe". In his meeting with MEPs Mr Verhofstady outlined his veiws and MEPs responded.
