Press Release: European Union deploys Election Observation Mission to Fiji for May 2006 Legislative Elections

Following an invitation from Government of Republic of Fiji Islands, the European Commission on 19 April 2006 deployed an EU Election Observation Mission (EOM) for the legislative elections scheduled to take place between 6-13 May 2006. The EU EOM was to be lead by István Szent-Iványi, Member of the European Parliament. This was the first EU EOM deployed to a country of the Pacific region.
