European banking and financial services law

Abstract:

This reference work is compiled by the European Association of Public Banks which represents about 100 public banks and municipal financing institutes from various European countries. The Association’s specialised lawyers and economists follow the European legislation in order to provide member banks with information on EU financial law. This book presents an overview of all bank-related activities, plans and initiatives of the European Commission.

The work is comprised of eleven chapters referenced by letters rather than the usual numbers. Each chapter covers three topics: Texts adopted by the EU; Proposals under discussion; Other initiatives. If any of these titles is omitted then the topic is not applicable to that chapter. Accompanying the book is a CD which also contains the full official version of all Directives and Regulations that are published by the Commission and that have passed through the official legal procedures.

Chapter A deals with banking and banking supervision law. Capital markets and securities law are covered in chapter B. Accounting and company law are the subject of chapter C. Consumer law is examined in chapter D, while chapter E looks at taxation and capital transactions. Chapter F addresses payments. Money laundering and financial crime are examined in chapter G. Chapter H explores competition law and chapter I looks at civil law. Chapter J deals with miscellaneous issues such as data protection, electronic signatures, cccupational pensions and insurance mediation. Chapter K deals with items such as the Financial Services Action Plan, the Lamfalussy Procedure and the Co-decision Procedure, and provides a table of contents of the European Treaties.

The work will interest scholars, students, law practitioners and bankers engaged in European banking, EU financial markets and banking supervision.
