On 12.7.00, the President of the Court of Human Rights, Luzius Wilhaber, named three 'wise persons' to report on Austria's adherance to 'common European values' in a step that may open the way to ending sanctions imposed on Austria by its European partners. The three named are Martti Ahtisaari, former President of Finland, Jochen Frowein, director of the Max-Planck Institute in Heidelberg, Germany, and Marcelino Oreja, a former Spanish foreign minister and past member of the European Commission.
