Summary: Anna Diamantopoulou, Commissioner for Employment and Social Affairs signed the 'Objective 3 Single Programming Document' (SPD) for the Åland Islands, a Swedish-speaking, autonomous province of Finland with a population of 25 000. Financed by the European Social Fund (ESF), the SPD supports measures to boost education, training and employment opportunities on the Islands, from 2000 to 2006. For the first time, a separate Objective 3 programme has been established for Åland, with EU funding for the seven years totalling €2.6 million. |
