The European Commission has granted €2 million in humanitarian aid for victims of earthquakes which occurred in May and June 2000 in Sumatra, displaced persons from the Moluccas and East Timorese refugees in West Timor. Managed by the Humanitarian Aid Office (ECHO), the aid will enable the Red Cross and other non-governmental partners to carry out programmes for over 200 000 displaced persons and refugees over the next six months. This grant brings ECHO's aid to the region since 1999 to €24.5 million. |
