The Conciliation Committee, consisting of members of the European Parliament and the Council of Ministers, met on 3 April 2000. Ms Anna Diamantopoulou represented the Commission. The Committee reached agreement on the extension of the Working Time Directive (93/104/EC) to cover workers in the sectors and activities currently excluded from the Directive. These are the air, rail, road, sea, inland waterway, sea fishing and offshore sectors and the activities of doctors in training. Some 5 million people in the EU work in the industries and services concerned.
