Merkel backs Siemens over job cuts

Report of comments on issues relating to the German economy made by German Chancellor Angela Merkel in an interview with the Bild am Sonntag newspaper, 13 July 2008.

The Chancellor backed Siemens, saying the 17,000 job cuts announced by the engineering giant recently may be needed to maintain its competitiveness.
