Press Release: URBAN II – The Commission adopts guidelines and indicative allocations per Member State for the new Community Initiative for urban regeneration

The European Commission has adopted its guidelines for the URBAN II Community Initiative, devoted to the economic and social regeneration of declining towns and cities and run-down urban districts. Assistance from the European Regional Development Fund to support the new Initiative in 2000-06 will total € 700 million. The adoption follows the completion of a consultation process involving the Member States, the European Parliament, the Committee of the Regions and the Economic and Social Committee, on the draft guidelines which were adopted by the Commission last October.
