A special edition of the Monthly Panorama of European Business which looks at the topic of competitiveness within manufacturing in the EU. The analysis starts by identifying the main areas of economic activity in the manufacturing sector of the EU economy. It does this by ranking the industries according to their value, in addition to their trade performance (using indicators such as apparent consumption, their share in total manufacturing exports and their export ratios, as well as export specialisation indices) The reader is then presented with a snapshot of the competitive postion of the twelve most important industries.
