Jos Chabert has been elected President of the Committee of the Regions of the European Union. His period in office will run from 16 February 2000 to 25 January 2002. He succeeds Mr Manfred Dammeyer, who now becomes First Vice-President. Jos Chabert, a member of the European People's Party (EPP), is Belgian. He has served on several occasions as a minister in Belgium's federal government. He has been Vice-President of the Brussels-Capital government since 1989, and is currently Minister for Public Works and Transport. |
