The European Commission has presented a proposal for a Community Framework for Cooperation to promote sustainable urban development and to promote Agenda 21, the blueprint for a sustainable future adopted in Rio at the Earth Summit in June 1992, and sustainability at local level. This new legal instrument will allow the Commission to improve its cooperation on these issues with local authorities through networks of European cities. |
