The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) claimed, on 28 August 2009, that a new study had overestimated the impact of the new chemicals legislation (REACH) on animal testing by six times. The study, recently published by Constanza Rovida and Thomas Hartung, researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, suggested that the testing required would involve 54 million vertibrate animals and that the costs would amount to €9.5 billion. |
