Date: 28/01/1999 Germany's new Transport Minister Franz Münterfering is turning into a star. He has refreshingly failed to grasp the first lesson of politics that you should be omniscient on all issues if you are confronted by the press. When journalists asked him what he thought of electric cars (which are much favoured by Germany's powerful Greens), Münterfering replied with astounding frankness: “I don't see any point in blathering on about that.” He then took part in a European Parliament committee discussion on 'innovation' as a German presidency transport priority. Sadly, the words of the minister for innovation could not be heard at first because he couldn't work out how to switch on his microphone. |
