ILI have introduced a number of additional features into their CD ROM Eurolaw, a version of the CELEX database. Full text of the Official Journal 'C' series from 1995 has now been introduced, and scanned images and tables are available, also from 1995 onwards, as a bolt-on extra on a separate disk. A hotlink prompt appears in the record on the main disk. Legislation can now be identified by colloquial names such as the VDU Directive and bibliographic records of standards relating to the CE marking Directive are also included. A new sector, Sector 11, has been created to offer the Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights and the text of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights with links to related texts. Inserted according to ILI to meet the demand of customers, this may increase confusion over the common misconception that the European Court of Human Rights is an EC institution, rather than an organ of the Council of Europe as is in fact the case. The useful Explanatory Memoranda from Commission documents, not published in the Official Journal 'C' series version of proposed legislation, have also been added and the DTI Spearhead database and bulletin Proceedings of the Court of Justice and Court of First Instance of the European Communities are available as optional extras. As a result, the less important Sector 9, Parliamentary questions has been extracted to a separate disk to allow the most important elements to fit on to one disk. French, German and Italian versions of the CD ROM are also produced. A web version of Eurolaw (English language only) was introduced towards the end of 1997. Updating monthly, it will simplify networking of the database. At present, however, it does not allow use of the index facility available to CD ROM searchers but the additional Official Journal 'C' series data is to become available very shortly. The interface appears to allow just ten searchable fields but, in fact, if the codes are known the other fields are searchable in expert mode. Two payment options cater for both heavy and infrequent users: an annual subscription gives unlimited usage, while the pay per view option which is billed monthly allows free searching with charges for displaying brief and full records. Potential users should take advantage of the trial option. Full details of costs and the facility to register for access to the database are available on ILI's web site at http://www.ili.co.uk or by contacting: ILI |
