Foreign Affairs Council, 23 June 2014

A meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council was held on 23 June 2014. The agenda includes the following topics:

+ Presentation by Ukraine's president of his proposal for a peace plan in the region;

+ Briefing on developments in eastern Ukraine, both politically and on the ground;

+ Discussion on the preparatory work undertaken as regards restrictive measures towards stakeholders involved in the conflict in eastern Ukraine;

+ Adoption of the conceptual framework for a mission to assist Ukraine in reforming its civilian security sector, including the police and the rule of law;

+ Adoption of measures implementing the EU's policy of non-recognition of the annexation of Crimea;

+ Preparatory work for the signing of the Association Agreement (AA) with Ukraine, which includes the DCFTA;

+ Debate on the latest developments in Iraq and related aspects of the crisis in Syria;

+ Discussion on the violence in Libya;

+ Discussion on the situation in the Syrian conflict, including the shipping out of the chemical weapons and the adoption of further sanctions against the country's regime;

+ Discussion on the sentences passed against journalists in Egypt;

+ Adoption of other topics without discussion: Responsible Sourcing of Minerals; political situation in Thailand; political situation in Afghanistan; Kidnap for Ransom by terrorist groups; Role of the private sector in development; 10th Anniversary of the EU Guidelines on Human Rights Defenders.
