Date: 10/09/1998 It seems Foreign Affairs Commissioner Hans van den Broek has added another matchmaking string to his bow. Dutch gossip magazine Privé claims that Beatrix, Queen of the Netherlands, asked Van Den Broek to look for a suitable fiancée for her son and heir Willem-Alexander, even though he already has a girlfriend he has been dating for the last three years. According to the weekly, 0the Dutch Commissioner hesitated for a second but then accepted the role of matchmaker, quickly seeing in his spokeswoman Lousewies van der Laan a promising choice. The magazine claimed he summoned Lousewies. “The queen is looking for a wife for the crown prince,” he allegedly said. “You will be assured of a golden future. Love is not an immediate necessity, you can consider it as a mariage de raison.” She declined. Van Der Laan admits to having heard these rumours, but denies them, although she confirms that she has now been added to the electoral list for Dutch centrist party D'66 in the coming European Parliament elections. |
