Date: 18/06/1998 International credit card company Visa suffered a slight embarrassment at a big media bash to launch the first euro transaction with one of its bits of plastic. Visa's own technology worked wonders, but the company's accompanying material on the availability of its machines within the euro-zone left more to be desired. According to a comprehensive Visa map of the EU, Germany's new eastern Länder are outside the single currency zone soon to encompass the rest of the country. A Visa spokesman admitted the firm's cartographer had no special insight into the future. It was just “a crass error”, he confessed. |
