European Central Bank vice-president Christian Noyer wishes it to be known that he has an “important job”.

Entre Nous scurrilously suggested recently that Noyer, being French, had been given all the dull and pen-pushing portfolios at the ECB by President Wim Duisenberg as the Dutchman's revenge for his treatment at the hands of Noyer's compatriots.

However, we have now been reliably informed that Noyer will also be the ECB's representative on the EU's economic and financial committee, the powerful panel of officials which will replace the monetary committee from 1 January.

Any other ECB executive board members who feel their functions have been inadequately described are invited to contact Entre Nous. Offers of exclusive interviews will be looked on particularly favourably.
