Speculation has been rife that Transport Commissioner Neil Kinnock's passionate outburst about Belgium's 'priority from the right' motoring rule must have been triggered by personal involvement in one of the nation's many priority-induced prangs.

Wrong: Kinnock insists his condemnation of the rule as “an offence against the security and liberty of the human race” did not result from hands-on experience. “My attack does not stem from any damage to my wife's car. I have not had a bang and neither has my wife. If that were the case, I would be even more incandescent than I am now - which would be difficult to achieve,” he told MEPs.
