Putting the wheels in motion

On your bikes, everybody. Members of the European Trade Union Confederation embarked last weekend on a five-day protest cycle ride to raise the profile of their campaign for jobs.

These brave souls planned to cycle from Metz to Brussels via, among other places, Luxembourg, Schengen and Maastricht, in what was described as a 'tour for jobs'.

But will such hard work make any difference to the length of the dole queues across Europe? “European leaders have promised to make employment their top priority and this event will ensure that there is no back-pedalling,” said one biker.
