The European Court of Justice has delivered an interim judgement blocking EU funding for pilot social projects for the poor and elderly

The UK and Germany are challenging a decision by the European Commission to approve 12 million ecu of funding for projects to assist the elderly and to combat poverty and social exclusion, arguing that the decision should have been taken by the Council of Ministers rather than the Commission. The Court's full judgement will come later and is in no way bound by the interim decision.
