Entre Nous has wrongly accused the Spanish of being the grumpy party-poopers of the European Union.

Our thanks to DGX for pointing out that some of the most miserable members of the European club are in fact the Swedes, 68&percent; of whom believe their country has not benefited since joining. Even more - 78&percent; - said they had no confidence in the Commission.

Difficult, you might think, to mix up sunny Spain and snowy Sweden. But all you have to do is muddle up the alphabet and think that S stands for the former instead of the latter.

E stands for Spain, naturally, which will come as a bit of a blow to Estonia when it finally joins the Union and take its place on the grumpometer.
