Date: 10/10/1996 OVER 1,000 participants will join leading policy-makers from all sides of the employment debate in Brussels early next month for the fourth annual Employment Week. Now firmly established on the EU's calendar, the 5-7 November conference, entitled Generating Jobs for Europe, will give both politicians and those operating at the grass roots an opportunity to exchange experiences. An accompanying exhibition will provide over 80 international organisations with a platform to raise their profile and meet senior figures from social partner organisations. Organised under the patronage of European Parliament President Klaus Hänsch and in cooperation with the Commission's Directorate-General V (employment), the event will be addressed on the first morning by Commission President Jacques Santer. Plenary sessions will be chaired by Social Affairs Commissioner Pádraig Flynn and Stephen Hughes, chairman of the Parliament's employment policy committee. A round table on day two will bring together DGV Director-General Allan Larsson and Zygmunt Tyszkiewicz, secretary-general of the employers' federation UNICE. Alongside plenary sessions, the conference will include a number of specialist workshops on how to create jobs through new technology, social and urban innovation and by encouraging entrepreneurship. |
