Date: 14/11/1996 Press office staff at the Council of Ministers are obviously taking EU laws on the 48-hour working week and all its associated rest breaks seriously - they are employing an answerphone between the hours of 1 and 2.30pm to inform callers that they are out to lunch. As one naughty person put it, at other times during the working day they tell callers that they are out to lunch in person. No, let's be serious about this - don't these people know that news is no respecter of the stomach? EU ministers who are planning to resign or launch stunning new policies have been advised not to do so during the crucial 90-minute shutdown or they might go unnoticed. And that would never do. |
