Hostilities have resumed between the Union's two main advisory bodies.

Staff at the Economic and Social Committee forced the Committee of the Regions (CoR) to abandon the meeting it had scheduled for 16 April and are now threatening to step up their action by disrupting the CoR's June plenary session.

The cause of this disruption is the continued row over the CoR's recruitment of A7 grade officials. The new staff were appointed to the Committee before Easter despite accusations that normal EU procedures were not followed.

The dispute brings to an end new CoR president Pasqual Maragall's brief honeymoon period and will be an early test of his political skills.
