Date: 30/11/1995 ...following a decision to set up an inter-parliamentary committee made up of deputies from both countries' assemblies. The committee has been formed despite reservations expressed by MEPs about “threats to democracy” in the former Communist state. Attention focused on security issues, notably Slovakia's relations with Hungary, during the first meeting of the committee. Slovakia is one of a number of Central and Eastern European countries which have applied for membership of the Union. |
