The Commission this week adopted a series of proposals to modify the controversial banana import regime

If agreed by ministers, these would award most of the increase in quota to account for enlargement to 'dollar' bananas, allow 'non-traditional' ACP bananas to be imported without licences, assist traders who have lost import rights due to unforeseen circumstances and allow newcomers to obtain rights to licences more easily.
