Date: 09/05/1996 The delightfully-named Prosper de Winne, who was obviously perfect for his former job as head of the anti-fraud unit in DGVI (agriculture), has now taken over as head of the beef division, following the move of Roelof Bennink to the budget division. Great shame, because Entre Nous thinks all officials should be kept in jobs best suited to their names. Or vice versa. If the beef crisis continues, for instance, we shall be re-designating the Commissioner in charge as Franz 'Meatler'. And the endlessly-travelling External Trade Commissioner will become Sir Leon 'Most-Places-Apart-From' Brittan. |
