whose proposed 803-million-ecu subsidy is under investigation by the European Commission, cancelled 340 flights on Monday (6 November) as its pilots went on strike. This was the third of eight 24-hour strikes called to complain about slow progress made in the company's restructuring and clearance for state aid. Transport Commissioner Neil Kinnock met Spanish Industry Minister Juan Manuel Eguiagaray on Tuesday, but failed to settle their remaining differences.

Kinnock flies to Athens tomorrow (10 November) to discuss progress made in the restructuring of Olympic Airways, which was allowed a 1.9-billion-ecu state aid last year. The Greek government must submit a report by the end of the month on progress made in carrying out the rescue plan.
