Matthias Platzeck, premier of the eastern German state of Brandenburg, was nominated on 2 November 2005 as the next chairman of the country's Social Democratic party. It is hoped that Mr Platzeck will be able to end the political crisis within the party and help to seal a coalition agreement with the Christian Democrats. |
