French farmers ‘holding the world to ransom’

Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer made a scathing attack on France and the European Union on 2 November 2005, claiming that a crucial WTO meeting in December 2005 could fail because 'French famers were holding the international trading system to ransom'.
