Constitutional barrier to plan for early poll

German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder's announcement of May 2005 calling for an early parliamentary election may be illegal and could be blocked by the country's constitutional court. Adopted in 1949, the Fundamental Law prevents Parliament from dissolving itself.
