The European Commission on 14 September published a Communication in which it states that industry was well on the way to enabling a car to call the emergency services, but infrastructure upgrades needed to handle the call were way behind schedule. All new cars in Europe were to be equipped with automatic emergency call (eCall) technology as soon as 2009, under an action plan agreed by the Commission and industry in February of 2005. |
