Press Release: Belgium: Commission takes action over breaches of environmental law

The European Commission on 13 July 2005 announced that it had sent Belgium final written warnings in five cases involving breaches of EU environment laws. The legislation in question concerned noise, strategic environmental impact assessment, public access to environmental information, water, waste and nature conservation. Meanwhile, the European Commission was able to close three previously publicised cases against Belgium on impact assessment, nature conservation and movement of waste following the notification of new measures by the Belgian authorities.
