Cooperation with competent organisations in EU Member States in accordance with Article 36 of Regulation 178/2002

Regulation 178/2002 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 28 January 2002 laysing down the general principles and requirements of food law, establishing the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and laying down procedures in matters of food safety, includes in Article 36 provisions for networking of organisations operating in the fields within EFSA's mission. On 27 July 2005, EFSA's Executive Director, Geoffrey Podger, sent a letter to all Permanent Representations of all EU Member States initiating the process for the designation of competent organisations by the Member States for a scientific network according to Article 36 of the above Regulation. EFSA gave a deadline date of two months from the date of receipt of the letter.
