Press Release: European Commission President José Manuel Barroso visits China to deepen the strategic partnership

Preview of a visit of the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, to Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Macao from 14 to 18 July 2005, at the invitation of Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao. It was the first official visit of Mr. Barroso and the fourth visit to China by a President of the European Commission. President Barroso was planning to meet Chinese President Hu Jintao and Prime Minister Wen to discuss ways to enhance the maturing partnership between the EU and China, and with the Chief Executives of Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions. He intended to make three keynote speeches in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong.
